Poetry in Motion at Pinewood

Our 9th-grade literature students' culminating poetry unit project doubled as an on-campus art installation and community conversation piece. Inspired by the Poetry in Motion project in the subways of NYC (designed to offer a moment to connect people of all different backgrounds through poetry), students were asked to share poetry they loved in a creative way using chalk, illustrations, and word art on the school's basketball court. Teacher Michelle Gannon says it was "amazing to watch other students outside of class take time to read the poetry and comment with each other during breaks and lunch on the day it was created."
