Students in Yosemite, Nature's Classroom

Our 6th graders traveled to Yosemite National Park during the first week of school and participated in a two-day experiential learning outing hosted by NatureBridge. The time was geared toward learning leadership skills, engaging with the environment, and getting to know one another better. Students were accompanied by Mrs. Ria Walker, Ms. Iris Law, and Principal Sarah Haun, along with five parent chaperones. With many new students in the 6th grade, this annual tradition enables new students to familiarize themselves with their classmates and bond with one another in a fun, outdoor setting.

While in Yosemite, students hiked Vernal Falls, roasted marshmallows over an open campfire, and learned about Yosemite National Park and its fascinating history. Students were paired with "Breakfast Buddies" and "Dinner Dates" at meals and were given sharing questions in an effort to encourage new friendships. At our evening campfire, students shared the new things they'd learned about their classmates during the day. At free time, our students built forts in the forest, played hide-and-seek, and explored the beautiful NatureBridge campus. Students slept in dorm-style facilities; girls in one cabin and boys in the other. Games of flashlight tag and talking late into the night were part of the evening routine.

Students returned tired but ready to start an amazing year as 6th graders at Middle Campus!
