Hour of Admiration

“Because that's all life is, really, a string of moments that you knot together and carry with you. Hopefully most of those moments are wonderful, but of course, they won't all be. The trick is to recognize an important one when it happens. Even if you share the moment with someone else, it is still yours. Your string is different from anyone else's. It is something no one can ever take away from you. It will protect you and guide you, because it IS you.”
– Wendy Mass, Jeremy Fink and the Meaning of Life

After reading Jeremy Fink and the Meaning of Life in Ms. Meter’s language arts class, our 6th graders were given the opportunity to consider who in their lives represented a meaningful “knot” in the string of their life story. Today, they invited those people to Hour of Admiration, a very special event for Pinewood 6th graders. Each student read an essay written specifically for his or her guest, expressing gratitude and the significance that that person holds for him or her. As a surprise to the students, Ms. Meter also shared with her students why they hold a deeply meaningful place in her own story.

The Hour of Admiration celebrates the written and oral communication as well as the social-emotional skills that our students have built not only over the course of this year but also over their K-6 journey at Pinewood.
