Dream It, Build It

Our Middle Campus Maker Club is wrapping up its second major project of the year. In this project, the students made use of our new MacBook Pros and bank of 3D printers to design their own desk lamps and bluetooth speakers. Students worked in Tinkercad to design their projects, printed them out on the 3D printers, and used a variety of tools (such as power drills, rotary tools, files, wire strippers/crimpers, etc.) to make adjustments and wire their projects together.

The 3rd- and 4th-grade club made a small desk lamp wired inside with LED bulbs, a breadboard, and coin batteries, In addition to becoming familiar with CAD software and 3D printing use, the Maker Club members learned about series and parallel circuits and voltage. The 5th- and 6th-grade club made their own bluetooth speaker, and in the process learned about the physics of sound and adjusting the volume of an enclosure to the user's specific needs. The students all had a blast and got to take home some one-of-a-kind lamps and speakers that they designed and built from the ground up.

Take a look at what our students created in their first Maker Club project: The Cardboard Challenge!
