Author/Illustrator Nathan Hale Wows K-6

This week, author/illustrator Nathan Hale (Nathan Hale's Hazardous Tales) visited Pinewood's Lower and Middle Campuses to share his story and his fascinating works, both published and in process.

Using his tablet, Hale shared his screen via AirPlay and constantly illustrated as he spoke. Our students listened with absolute focus, delighted by the drawings that came to life before their eyes. They gasped, gawked, and giggling at each twist and turn in Hale's stories.

At Lower Campus, Hale shared with our K-2 students the story of how he got to be where he is now from when he was a young boy. The secret to getting his dream job, he revealed, wasn't being the best or winning the most awards, it was simply always saying "YES!" to new opportunities. At Middle Campus, Hale conducted a workshop with our 6th graders, guiding them through a project in character and story creation. With the entire campus, he shared an illustrated tale about Lewis and Clark's adventures that he claimed was too gross for his publishers to consider (to our 3rd-6th graders' sheer delight!).
