Community. Opportunity. Growth. Impact.

Last year, our Pinewood community gave more than $1.2 million in just 100 days.

Over the last three years, we've nearly doubled the success of our Annual Fund First program.

When it comes to giving, think of the Annual Fund First (AFF) as the cornerstone of our fundraising efforts each year.

The AFF is the foundation of philanthropy at Pinewood - the largest and most broad-based fundraising effort each year. Participation in annual giving is also frequently used as a benchmark measurement of a community’s strength, making support at any level especially powerful – and our top priority.

THIS YEAR:

  • 100-Day Campaign: September 23 - December 31, 2019
  • 10% of our Pinewood Community serves as Ambassadors for the Annual Fund First.
  • Our goal is to elevate community participation in the 100-Day Campaign. Any gift, no matter the size, is meaningful.

The Annual Fund First:

  • Ensures innovative programs and spaces that engage and inspire our students' growth.
  • Enables us to attract and retain the finest teachers.
  • Allows us to take advantage of opportunities as they arise.

Annual Fund First FAQ

What's the purpose of the Annual Fund First?

Philanthropic support from our community is essential to maintaining our standard of excellence, and the most important way you can make a difference. Unrestricted, flexible support enables Pinewood to attract and retain world-class faculty, as well as provide the very best programs and state-of-the-art resources for our students.

Who participates in the Annual Fund First?

Everyone in the Pinewood community! Parents, faculty, staff, alumni, grandparents, parents of alumni, former faculty, and staff, neighbors and other friends of the school all come together each year to support Pinewood.

Why not raise tuition to cover all costs?

The school is committed to offering a Pinewood education to as many qualified students as possible. By keeping annual tuition increases at a competitive level and relying on AFF support, Pinewood is accessible to a wider range of students. Additionally, philanthropic support of the school is favorable financially over raising tuition due to the tax advantages of donations.

How much should I give?

Every Pinewood family is encouraged to participate in a way that is meaningful to them. Every gift, whether large or small, makes a difference. Pinewood hopes for 100% participation from all current parents, Trustees, faculty & staff. Gifts range from $5 – $50,000, and make a significant impact on the daily experience of all Pinewood students.

What is the 100-Day Campaign?

The 100 Day-Day Campaign is our flagship philanthropic campaign, during which all parents are invited to support the AFF. By giving or pledging early, your dollars will be put to use immediately for our wonderful faculty and students. Our hope is that 100% of parents will participate by making a gift or pledge in the 100-Day Campaign.

When will I be asked?

The 100-Day Campaign will run this year from September 23–December 31, 2019. Everyone in the Pinewood community will receive a letter in September requesting support of the AFF, and a follow-up email from one of our wonderful AFF Ambassadors. We encourage you to make your gift or pledge by December 31st so that donations can be put to immediate use. Pledges to the AFF are payable by June 30 of each school year, so you can pledge in the fall, but pay in the spring, if you prefer.

What is "Leadership Giving?"

Gifts of Securities (stock)

A gift of long-term, appreciated securities helps save you taxes twice. Such a gift provides an income tax deduction and a capital gains tax savings. It is often the best asset to give. Matching Gifts

Many employers participate in a matching gifts program as an employee benefit. Matching gifts allow you to double or triple your contributions to the school. Please contact your Human Resources Department for guidelines and forms. You will be recognized by Pinewood School for the sum total of your family's gift AND any corporate match given in your name.

Other Ways to Gift

In addition to gifts of cash or securities, there are a variety of other gift vehicles that enable donors to make larger gifts than would otherwise be possible. Such gifts often generate substantial tax savings and can result in increased income as well. Each of these gifts must be tailored to a donor’s specific situation. Please feel free to call the Development Office at 650-209-3041 for more information, as well as consulting with your attorney and other advisors.

Gifts of Real Estate or Appreciated Property

Many donors find it attractive to give appreciated property—homes, other types of real estate, businesses, personal property, etc.—because of the potential tax benefits.

Bequests

The simplest way for donors to arrange for a gift from their estate is to include a bequest provision to Pinewood School in their will.

Life Income Plans

These gift plans allow donors to give assets to Pinewood School while retaining an income for themselves or others. In addition to providing income (often tax-free), these gifts offer a number of tax and other advantages.

Gifts of Life Insurance

Many people own some form of life insurance that was purchased to provide protection that is no longer needed, even though the policy is still in force and may have significant cash value. Such policies can form the basis of a gift to Pinewood School.
