Learning Specialist
The learning specialist at Upper Campus is a resource offered to assist those students who are experiencing challenges with working and learning at school. Support for students can be in areas such as studying, exam prep, note-taking, time-management, organization, and planning. The learning specialist can also assist students with mild to moderate learning differences but who are performing at grade level in accessing their learning accommodations, if applicable. Students may arrange regular meetings with the learning specialist or can come in for drop-in appointments as needed.
Student Achievement Center
This is a designated space where the learning specialist meets with students, parents, and faculty. Students are also encouraged to collaborate on work and study together here. All learners are welcome.
Learning Labs/Workshops
World Language Workshop is held Monday through Friday during lunch in Room 11. Students may attend to get extra support with their world language classes and make up missing assessments, assignments or homework. The World Language Department Head will facilitate the workshop with the help of other department members when necessary.
English Workshop provides critical thinking, reading, and writing support, whether for English classes or for courses in other disciplines. An English teacher (and English Honor Society members when needed) are available to work one-on-one with students every day at lunch and after school in Room 1.
In Math Lab, students who need additional support, to catch up after an absence, or help to prepare for an assessment can work with a math teacher or a member of the Math Honor Society daily at either lunch or after school in Room 15.
Office Hours
All students have the opportunity at least once a month to meet with their teachers during designated office hours- a time to ask questions, study, and collaborate with peers under teacher guidance. Office Hours take place on Community Days and can be found on the Veracross calendar of events.
Tutoring 7-12
Most teachers offer tutoring on an informal basis throughout the school day; some teachers are available after school for students who wish to pay for regularly scheduled tutoring. Arrangements for private tutoring should be made with the individual teacher. Tutoring charges will be determined and collected by the teacher.
Parent/Teacher Conferences
Parent/Teacher Conferences are held throughout the school year on an as-needed basis. If a teacher or member of the administration believes a conference is necessary, parents will be contacted and a conference will be arranged. Parents who wish to talk to a teacher or member of the administration may schedule a conference at any time by calling the office to set up an appointment or by contacting the teacher directly by phone or email.
