Patty Carleton grew up in Lake Tahoe, losing herself in books and in forests. She began her teaching career on the college level but found that she wanted to spark students’ excitement for reading and writing earlier in their schooling. Patty taught at Pinewood from 2001-2003/2005-2007, and she has returned because of Pinewood’s unique commitment to separate literature and writing classes. Patty feels lucky to be a part of an academic community that makes such a profound statement about the importance of the written word. In her spare time, Patty writes fiction, runs, is obsessed with all things Scandinavian, and loves visiting museums (the odder the subject matter, the better) and road-tripping with her husband, Eric. Patty holds a B.A. in English from Cornell University, an M.A. in English from The Claremont Graduate University, and an M.A. in Creative Writing from U.C. Davis.
