Join Mr. Slayton for an afternoon of your favorite games and activities, particularly the ones that get you MOVING! We also do some art and creative projects. At All-Star Athletes, children will get at least an hour's worth of physical activity and an opportunity to bond with fellow Pinewood students in an entertaining, athletic, creative, and encouraging environment, one that stresses FUN over competition.

Arts & Crafts Club • Grades 1-2

This club promotes imagination, creativity, and most importantly, fun. Students will be able to experiment with various mediums, such as painting, drawing, building, and fabric arts. There will also be opportunities for the students to work on individual projects as well as collaborative, large-scale group projects.

Bay Area Chess combines fun and learning while promoting a team spirit where everyone helps each other succeed and improve. Our chess program will cover the very basics for new students to the game and we can challenge experienced players with more advanced concepts. Students will have the opportunity to learn the moves of the pieces, opening strategy, tactics, checkmates, and endgame play. Students will also learn valuable life skills through chess, such as winning and losing with grace, sportsmanship, planning, and team spirit. Our mission is to transform and enrich the lives of students through chess. Registration and fees are handled directly by Bay Area Chess.

Experience the joy of singing and performing together. The Lower Campus Choir club offers children the opportunity to grow musically by supporting each young student’s healthy vocal development and learning the teamwork necessary to successfully perform a diverse repertoire of children’s choral music. Come sing, dance, and play every Wednesday afternoon as we explore fun musical activities, instrumental accompaniments, and prepare for our Winter and Spring concerts with Middle Campus choir.

Little Maker Club • Grades 1-2

Mr. Brusco leads this incredible club that focuses on Design and Engineering projects using our mobile Maker Carts. Students will learn about the design process and work with a variety of tools, materials, and electronics, to design and build an assortment of unique creations to take home. Past projects have included balloon cars, paddle boats, bird houses, flying machines, kaleidoscopes, board games, flashlights, snow globes, terrariums, and even a miniature golf course. Individual projects typically last 2-3 weeks.

Gardening Club • Grades K-2

Students will explore plants and animals that live and grow in the garden. We will create various themed gardens including a pizza garden, butterfly garden, and even a tea garden - where we will grow herbs from which we will make our own creative tea recipes. Students will learn about planting, harvesting, and worm composting and will be able to cook and eat some of their own produce. Raising and releasing butterflies is on the agenda, as is studying and releasing ladybugs, making bird feeders, and creating our own terrariums.

Pokémon and Super Mario Themed After School LEGO® • Grades K-2 • Not Part of Lottery

Join Brick Tech as we introduce your child to STEM basics by building guided projects out of LEGO® pieces! Participants will build everything Mario and Pokémon such as Gyms, Pokéballs, Go-Karts, Green Pipes, and obstacle courses. Participants will be introduced to STEM topics as they build and play with their favorite characters from both Pokémon and Super Mario. Join us this winter as we prepare for battle with Team Rocket and train to defend Princess Peach from the evil Bowser.

• Lower Campus: $515 per club except
  • Maker Club 1-2 ($555 which includes a $40 materials fee)
• All Pinewood club fees will automatically be billed to a family's FACTS account.
• Outside vendors charge their own fees and payment is made directly to that vendor.
• If a student enrolls in a club at any time during the semester, the full semester fee will be due and payable.

This club offers a pressure-free environment where students can play their favorite P.E. games with other students from all grade levels. Whether you are a sports fanatic or just enjoy being outside, this fun and exciting club will offer an afternoon of games and enjoyment. This program will primarily utilize the VEX robotics platform, but may include additional robotics platforms as well as a possible team-based competitive robotics event at some point during the year. Future of Robotics with LEGO Spike Prime® • Grades 3-4 • Not Part of LotteryBrick Tech is happy to introduce our newest robotics class using LEGO's Spike Prime system. In this course, students will build projects that will introduce robotics concepts while also learning to program with a scratch-based programming language. Projects will include use of color, distance, and touch sensors. There are no prerequisites for this class.

Drama Club • Grades 3-6Calling all actors and actresses! Do you love the spotlight? Do you wish your drama class lasted all year long? Join your fellow drama lovers each Wednesday afternoon in the theater! Club members will play games, practice scenes and songs, learn about the technical aspects of theater, and work on dancing and singing skills. Drama Club focuses on fun, personal growth, and peer-to-peer encouragement. This is a wonderful club for students who love to perform as well as those who are hoping to gain more confidence and stage presence.

French Club • Grades 3-6Bonjour et bienvenue! Good day and welcome to the Middle Campus French Club! Come join us as we learn some of the French language, travel through some of the French speaking countries, learn about French culture, and try some fabulous French food! Seasoned French Club students will learn more of the language and help lead games and activities. In addition, we will learn about the artists, architecture, and museums that make France the number one tourist destination!

Maker Club • Grades 5-6Brainstorm, design, prototype, and tinker away in Pinewood's iMaginarium Maker Lab. This club will use the design-thinking process to solve problems and build solutions into fun and hands-on projects. Students will use different tools; apply science, technology, and engineering concepts; and exercise their creativity and critical-thinking skills to build projects from scratch. There may be opportunities to collaborate with students in other grades.

Before School • Middle Campus Math Competition Team • Grades 5-6For those mathletes out there, we are offering an opportunity to participate on a Middle Campus Math Competition Team that will compete in national math competitions such as Math Olympiad and Noetic Learning Math. During the club, we will practice math problem-solving strategies in a challenging and safe environment. Students will enjoy the camaraderie of competing for their school as a team in these contests and will develop their skills, strategies, and confidence in math as a result. We require a full year commitment to be a part of this competition team. Let's go panthers!

Gardening Club • Grades 3-6Students will learn about planting, harvesting, and worm composting and will be able to cook and eat some of their own produce. We will host a Farm Stand at Middle Campus where students experience selling their harvest. Garden-related arts and crafts activities such as birdhouse and decorating pots will also be done. Service activities such as making floral gifts for seniors or donating to a food bank will be offered.

Awesome Authors and Artists • Grades 4-6 • Not Part of Lottery • Club FullCome join us in a challenging and enriching after-school writing club! Your child will learn various forms of writing in a fun environment that encourages hard work and taking pride in one's accomplishments. This workshop will provide the perfect chance to enrich the writing opportunities for the enthusiastic writer, or give the reluctant writer a chance to gain confidence and get extra help. While our focus is on the creative aspect of writing, the grammar and organizational concepts taught will be sure to carry over into your child's writing during the academic school day. There will be excellent opportunities for leadership development and one-on-one help with our small class and mixed age groups!  We will end our session with a Publishing Party as the students bring home a “portfolio” of all work completed!

Mini Makers Craft Club • Grades 3-6 • Not Part of Lottery

Does your child like to make things? Crafts are an excellent way to improve fine motor skills, improve your imagination, and express creativity. Each week we will have 1-2 projects for students to choose from. Mrs. Wong will bring a wide variety of craft projects that could include: charm bracelet making, soap, candles, resin, leather stamping, cupcake and cookie decorating. Sarah Wong is a current parent '29 and a professional pastry chef (sarahlindsaycakes.com). She also has a seasonal wreath company called Midnight Wreath, and sells at holiday shows and markets.

National Honor Society

Membership in the Pinewood Chapter of the National Honor Society is open to selected seniors who show a commitment to academic achievement, leadership, service, and character. In addition to these qualities, and to be eligible for membership, students must have a cumulative 3.85 GPA by end of junior year, complete an application, and be approved by select members of the Pinewood faculty.

English Honor Society

The English Honor Society recognizes seniors who demonstrate excellence and intellectual curiosity in the fields of literature and writing. Requirements include a B+ average or above in the department's AP and Honors courses, consistent academic integrity and attendance records, and endorsement by members of the English Department. Responsibilities include attending meetings, volunteering for at least five hours per year in English Workshop, and helping the English Department with special occasions.

French Honor Society

The French Honor Society is an honorary group of French 2–5 students with high achievement in their French classes. Students meet on a periodic basis and are involved in various cultural activities including weekend museum visits, music events, luncheons, and theater attendance. Members are required to serve as assistants in World Language workshop, attend all meetings, and participate in at least one activity per semester.

Spanish Honor Society

The Spanish National Honor Society is for students in their Senior year who have excelled in Spanish and show a genuine passion for the Spanish language and culture. Membership in the Pinewood Spanish Honor Society is based on teacher recommendation. Criteria for a teacher recommendation are based on the following:

• Academic performance 
• Passion for the Spanish language and culture
• Completion of Spanish 3 with a record of high achievement 
• Currently taking a Spanish course (if available)
• Current 12th-grade student 

Members will receive Spanish Honor Society cords at graduation if the following is completed:

• 5 hours of community service on campus during cultural events or other content-related community projects  
• Attendance at Spanish Honor Society Meetings
• Participation in induction celebration

Chinese Honor Society

The Chinese National Honor Society is for students who have excelled in Mandarin and show a genuine passion for the Mandarin language and culture. Membership in the Pinewood Chinese Honor Society is based on teacher recommendation. Criteria for a teacher recommendation are based on the following:

• Passion for participating in Chinese Speech Contests and other related Chinese / Chinese culture competition 
• Academic performance 
• Passion for the Chinese language and culture
• Currently taking a Chinese course (if available)

Members will receive Chinese Honor Society cords at school yearly graduation if the following is completed:

• 5 hours of community service on campus during cultural events or other content-related community projects  
• Attendance at Chinese Honor Society Meetings
• Participation in the Chinese Speech Contest

Art Honor Society

The Art Honor Society is an honorary group of high school students who have completed four semesters of Studio Art with an “A-” or better and received the recommendation of an art faculty member. Art Honor Society members volunteer five hours of art-related service and participate in various art shows throughout the year.

Math Honor Society

The Math Honor Society is comprised of students who have taken, or are currently enrolled in, Calculus, AP Calculus AB or AP Calculus BC, and that have performed with outstanding academic achievement through- out their mathematics courses. The students of the Math Honor Society are responsible for the planning and presentation of Pinewood’s annual Pi-Day event.

Science Honor Society

The Science Honor Society recognizes juniors and seniors who have shown exemplary achievement in at least two years of physics, chemistry, and biology and who have been recommended by two of their science teachers.

Student Leadership Committee (9-12)

SLC (Student Leadership Committee) officers, class officers, class advisors, and the activity advisor make up the Student Council. The council is responsible for scheduling and organizing assemblies, rallies, dances, special sporting and social events, and other activities. Elections for SLC, senior, junior, and sophomore class officers are held in the spring. Freshman student council members are elected in the fall. All officers must maintain a 3.0 GPA and set a positive example for fellow students.

Junior High Student Council (7-8)

Working closely with their faculty advisor, the Junior High Student Council organizes, plans and implements service projects, 7th and 8th grade dances, and participation in school spirit activities.
