PINEWOOD ALUM LINDSAY STEWART PRODUCES STORIES FOR FOX NEWSWhen the Fox Broadcasting Company sends Special Report, Fox
News Live, and Fox Report w/ Shepard Smith over the airwaves, a Pinewood alumnus
and former editor of Panther Prints is calling the shots off-camera. Lindsay Stewart, Class of 1998, began
producing segments for Fox News approximately three years ago after leaving
KNBC, the NBC affiliate in Los Angeles.
Stewart, who studied English and economics at Berkeley, is currently producing all the political news
pieces that originate in the western United States. Her focus lately has been on covering the
various presidential candidates as they make fundraising trips up and down the
west coast. Lindsay has also worked on
segments dealing with the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina and, on the lighter
side, produced a profile of "The Price is Right's" Bob Barker.
As a producer, Lindsay's responsibilities include generating
story ideas, performing background research, conducting interviews, writing
copy, and working with editors, photographers, and satellite truck operators to
get the story on the air. The on-screen
reporter cannot always be on location, so Stewart must brief the correspondent
fully to ensure a seamless broadcast.
The work is demanding, and Lindsay credits Pinewood teacher Mrs. Pulley
with teaching her the value of excellence: "I received a book report back from
her with a giant 0% written in the middle of my paper ... the word ‘rubbish' was
at the bottom. That day I realized I was
going to have to amp up my effort if I wanted to do well."
Lindsay also recalls having experiences through drama
classes and student council work at Pinewood that gave her the courage and
confidence to make use of the opportunities that college afforded. While at Cal,
she interned with the investigative unit of ABC Network News and covered the
2000 Democratic National Convention in Los
Angeles. She
later worked at the ABC affiliate in San
Francisco, researching stories that aired during the
main newscast.
Though her job requires her to be often away from home,
Lindsay found time last summer to marry Los
Angeles investigative producer Matt Goldberg. They live with their Boston Terrier, Otis
Jones, in Toluca Lake and, time allowing, invite friends
over for Lindsay's specialties, chicken curry and seafood linguine.
Pinewood congratulates Lindsay on her success and wishes her
the best in the upcoming election year!
