Arts, Communication, & Technology
The Arts, Communication, & Technology (ACT) Department focuses on creating competent, confident musicians, artists, and communicators through the varied disciplines of theatre, music, musical theatre, art, digital art, communications, and technology. Visual Arts is interested in creating artists who can communicate their unique voice, are proficient in various media, interested in experimentation, skilled in observational representation, and appreciators of art history and contemporary art. Students are also prepared to take AP Art History and AP Studio Art and work with digital media in Photoshop and Film Studies. The Performing Arts at Pinewood gives students the opportunity to perform in a variety of situations. Each year we produce a full stage production of a play and a musical for high school students that range from Shakespeare to present-day playwrights and composers. Students also have the opportunity to sing in the award-winning choirs and take an annual tour. Past tours have included trips to London to perform in the London International Choral Festival, New York City to perform at Lincoln Center's Avery Fisher Hall and even Magic Music Days at Disneyland. The choral program is supported by a developed Music Theory curriculum that includes ear-training, basic keyboarding and music technology. At the end of this curriculum, the students are encouraged to take AP Music Theory. The theatre program hosts other unique performances like: Artist Harvest (talent show), Open-Mic Comedy Show, and a Spring Fashion show. All of the theatrical productions are supported by the technical theatre class which builds all of the sets and props for every show. Students are encouraged to participate in varied arts disciplines and the collaborative nature of our arts faculty creates an environment where students succeed.
