6th Graders Help Those Living with Food Insecurity, Poverty, & Homelessness

As part of our Middle Campus Service Learning program, the 6th graders are engaged in various projects to support the work of LifeMoves, an organization dedicated to providing interim housing and supportive services that create opportunities for homeless families, individuals, and veterans. The goal of LifeMoves' work is to see these people rapidly return to stable housing and long-term self-sufficiency.

Our 6th-grade class has been working hard to prepare and fundraise for various upcoming activities with LifeMoves. In September, they organized, promoted, and carried out a donut sale and a snow cone sale to benefit the organization, raising more than eight hundred dollars from their Pinewood peers and faculty! Currently, students are creating decorations and gathering donated costumes for the LifeMoves resident Halloween party in late October.

The aim of the Service Learning program at Middle Campus is to open our students' eyes to the needs of their community, to give them practical ways to get involved in providing help, and to inspire them to become empathetic members of their society. Each grade at Middle Campus will partner with a local organization this year and do hands-on projects to serve that organization's specific needs. We are so proud of our students' love of service, and we are excited to see the great things they will do and learn this year.

Get involved!

  • Donate Halloween costumes or decorations at Middle Campus morning dropoff until Wednesday, October 4th
  • Give your children the opportunity to earn money through chores at home to donate to the LifeMoves Halloween event (donations can be given to 6th graders for collection in their classroom)
