A Focus On Global and Local Citizenship

We encourage our students to become active members of their local and global community.

Through educational travel and service learning, students learn to engage with clarity and sensitivity, ultimately demonstrating cross-cultural awareness, understanding, and compassion.

Pinewood students take part in educational travel every year. Visiting global cultures presents an invaluable opportunity for international understanding.

This summer, a group of our high school students, faculty, and staff explored the vast country of 🇨🇳 China. By plane, train, automobile, rickshaw, and on foot, our travelers observed iconic landmarks, staggering natural beauty, and elements of historic and modern Chinese culture. Highlights included the Great Wall, Tiananmen Square, the Terracotta Warriors, the Zhangjiajie Glass Bridge, the Floating Mountains, and an invitation into local homes to observe modern family life. It’s hard to imagine a more memorable summer than this one! #PinewoodUpperCampus #pwchinaadventure

49 Upper Campus students, teachers, and administrators ventured on a service trip to Fiji over Spring Break. They built homes, constructed outside toilets for the local people, prepared and served meals for a women’s shelter, organized a day camp for Fijian kids, and cleaned up a flooded animal shelter and hospital. Service is a treasured value of ours here at Pinewood; we love to see our students grow as conscientious, caring citizens of their local and global communities. #PinewoodUpperCampus

Maggie the Golden joined our 4th graders this morning as they collected wishlist donations for the Humane Society of Silicon Valley. This is the kickoff of the students’ month-long project focusing on Animal Advocacy. Our Middle Campus Service Learning initiative provides all students with the opportunity to serve their community and to find unique ways in which they can change their world for the better. @humanesocietysv #PinewoodMiddleCampus
