Pinewood Inducts Sami Field-Polisso Into the Athletic Hall of Fame
Sami, Class of 2007, has represented Pinewood with school spirit, competitiveness,
and character. She has contributed to many of the banners that are up on
the gymnasium rafters. Most notably, are the four consecutive league
and CCS championships, and two state championships in 2005 and 2006.
Here is a quick review of the top, most prestigious awards Sami gained
while being a student-athlete at Pinewood: 2007 Lynn Riches Award
Winner, 2007 Pinewood Athlete of the Year, 2007 Cal-Hi Magazine Division
V Player of the Year, 2007 Palo Alto Daily News Player of the Year,
2007 State Division V Player of the Year, 2006 & 2007 Basketball
league MVP, 2006 First team All-League Softball, and 2006 Cal-Hi
Magazine Division V All-State honors.
Most of us remember Sami
for her basketball prowess. What many do not know is that she spent her
off seasons participating in cross-country, volleyball, softball, and
swimming. Sami played many of these extra sports in order to help the
teams field a team, due to low participation numbers, or to broaden her
athletic interests. Sami’s playing history at Pinewood speaks for
itself. Her awards were numerous, but one of the top qualities she
brought was that she made everyone around her better. She has been a
tremendous role model for our younger players. Her work ethic, passion,
and good heart were everything that symbolized a quality
student-athlete at Pinewood. Sami is currently a junior at Sacramento
State majoring in kinesiology and playing on the women’s basketball
team.
